What is a "ghost job"?
A posting that isn't attached to a real, currently-open role — a listing kept up to collect résumés for a talent pipeline, to look like the company is growing, or left online long after the job was filled. Estimates of how common they are vary widely, which is part of why it's worth reading a posting carefully rather than trusting a headline number.
How does the check work?
It reads the posting for things a real, urgent opening usually has and a placeholder usually doesn't: a stated salary range, a named team or product, a concrete description of the work, requirements a real person could actually meet. It also flags evergreen language like "always accepting applications."
Can it tell whether a job is definitely fake?
No, and it won't claim to. It reads the text you paste — nothing else. It has no data on the company, no record of how long the listing has been up, and no way to know whether it's been reposted. A high score means the posting is short on the signals a genuine opening usually carries, not that the job is proven fake. Plenty of real jobs are advertised badly.
Does it store what I paste?
No. The text is sent for analysis and discarded. There's no account, no cookie tracking you across the site, and nothing written to a database.
